Paul Hopkins put in a brilliant ride at this evening’s time trial, knocking over 30 seconds from his own course record to set a new benchmark of 21.50. For the second week in a row, Julian Chown lowered his course best time by a very large margin, his time of 22.20 setting a course record for a short while (six and a half minutes to be precise) until Paul crossed the line. Guest rider Greg Shrosbree (Merida UK) was third in 22.52 with Kim Little fourth. Richard Hansford put in a good performance to set a p.b. of 24.24 while Mark Geddes, Mike Smith, Mike Donovan and Steve King also recorded in their best times for this course.
Jane Pritchard became the first woman rider to finish under 27 minutes on this course, getting home in 26.51, ahead of Emma Bradley (27.13), Sarah Roberts (30.19) and Jenny Lucas (31.27).
Ashley Martin (Chippenham Wheelers) finished well ahead of the rest of the junior riders, his time of 23.52 good enough for seventh overall. Barney Cox did well get under 30 minutes (29.38) while Erin Martin (Chippenham Wheelers) and Maria Phillips were closely matched on 32.27 and 32.38 respectively.
Thanks to the starters and timekeepers, and to Vic Hansford and Clare Martin for marshalling – a Chippenham Wheeler marshalling a GDW event!!!
