Even though it was a miserable evening for riding a bike around, there were 21 pairs of riders at the 2 up time trail, the final GDW tt of the season. Kim Little and Paul Hopkins were quickest, a minute clear of Paul Caton and Vince Hounsome. Third place went to Stuart Kerton and Jay Hookins with Chris Gray and Charles Rees taking fourth.
Robin and Stef Greenaway did well to get under 30 minutes in their first tt while Maddie Howden got under half an hour for the first time after joining forces with her dad Ben. Unfortunately, youth riders Lawrence Kinnison and Elliot Simpson were non-finishers after Lawrence’s bike lost a pedal while George Smith and Rowan Birch indulged in a little synchronised sliding on Tarmac on the way round.
There were several teams who beat their target/handicap time, but Chris and Charles were clear winners, second went to Ben and Maddie Howden, third to Pete Humphreys and James Howell.
The hillclimb series at Mere will resume and climax over the next three Wednesday nights, with a new hillclimb event at Bulbarrow on Saturday 13th September. Times etc are on the calendar page.
