A number of GDW members travelled up to Porridgepot Hil in
Surrey for the fifth round of the Southern XC MTB series last weekend. The
track is a rider favourite with its endless twisty singletrack and punchy
climbs.
Early in
the morning Leo and Nicole Roberts were racing. Nicole was racing really well to take second
place in the under 9s and Leo working very hard getting 12th in the
under 11s despite being much smaller than some of the other
competitors.
Dad Scawen
was racing later in the Veterans race, tussling with his regular nemeses and
finishing 35th with some very consistent laps. Andy Parsons in the same category finished 24th.
Paul Hopkins was pushed harder than usual but still took the win in a sprint
finish
Nigel Brown
and daughter Rosie raced next, Rosie showing she has picked up more than a few
tips from dad bagging second place in the Sport Female
race. Nigel was as always was at the
pointy end of the Grand Veterans taking second too, only a minute down on the National
Champion.
Kim Little
was contesting the fiercely competitive Experts race and led out the first lap
until a bad crash caused the race to be stopped. Upon the restart Kim worked hard to take
second place.
Liam
Teesdale and Jim Broom were also caught up in the chaos with the race restarts.
Liam took a wrong turn on the course
losing him lots of time and finishing 29th. Jim was looking comfortable in the busy Open
category and completed his three laps in 41st position.
