James Hywel-Davies took the start in the South Region Junior Road champs. This year it was held on the testing Owlesbury circuit near Winchester. An aggressive junior race saw attacks starting right after the neutralised flag was dropped. After racing over many rolling hills, many attcks were quickly neutralised. After a rapid first lap of just under 21 minutes, the peleton settled on a more agreeable pace. The second lap saw the decisive break go containing 3 riders. The chase started, but after a 40 mph pile-up in the chasing group, the urgency was lost. The beginning of the final lap was stricken with punctures and mechanicals. James attacked at 4km to go on the final climb, shortly before swinging onto the long finishing road and quickly established a 200m gap which he held to the finish to claim a well deserved 4th place.
