A warm and breezy day greeted James Hywel-Davis, Adam Baker and James Foster at the Whitelake Cheese Road Race on Sunday.  The race rolled out of Compton Dundon and onto the testing circuit that took the race over Snap Hill four times as part of a ten mile lap.  As soon as the flags dropped the early attacks came and Tor 2000 set a hard pace to keep the race together.  The early moves caught James Foster and Adam Baker out on the climb who did well to fight back on the decent and rejoin the peloton.  On the penultimate lap Michael Leech of Tor 2000 jumped away and James Hywel-Davis was the only GDW/WheelsofDorset rider left in the lead group.  James stuck to the pre-race briefing and saved everything for a big move on the last climb up Snap Hill where he put a large gap into the peloton and almost bridged across to the lone leader. He showed his class and finished with a well deserved second place.

George Smith ventured over to Hereford to tackle the 68 Mile, four lap race on the Weobley Circuit. The rolling roads didn’t slow the 80 rider field and it all stayed together for the first two laps with no one committing to any attacks. On lap three the selections began and a group of nine riders slipped away.  George had missed the move but didn’t panic, instead waiting for the peloton to get organised and bring it back.  With nerves tested to the limit it came back together on the final lap.  Then four riders slipped off the front, they would contest the finish and leave George to secure 10th place in the bunch sprint.

GDW/WheelsofDorset riders have been in action on Thursday nights at Ilton.  Last Thursday, Chris Gray took third place in fast bunch gallop to secure the highest place in a race at Ilton this year.
