There was a song contest at the weekend but then the real action started.
On Sunday 14 May nominative determinism was in play as our Sarah Wheeler had an age group win in her season’s debut at the Stonehenge Tri. Sadly 60 year old Vince Hounsome didn’t – because he had a fantastic 3rd overall so wasn’t eligible for another prize at the same race.
At the same time, Innes Wright managed to dodge the podium at his first ever sprint tri at Eton Dorney (he definitely needs to work on changing shoes quickly). However, his 4th place wins him selection for Team GB at next year’s Euro Championships. Chris Giles also toed the line in Berkshire, but his race was prematurely ended when he was taken out on a busy bike course.
Much closer to home, last week’s TT champion had a busy weekend. Mark Jacobs completed the Stourhead Immortal Triple Crown – a hilly 10k run followed by an Olympic distance tri on the Saturday, with a challenging 70.3 tri on the Sunday. A very creditable 5th place reinforces that he is in very fine form at the moment.
