The week of climbing has caused a bit of a shake-up. 3 Members foolishly took time off – 2 skiers and one lounging on a beach – so their uphill efforts were a little limited.
The women’s category was the closest. Clare Coward rode her way to 3,300m of climbing only to be trumped by Sarah Wheeler’s hiking and running combination of 3,500m. Michael Sleeman has eventually got top slot in a challenge – 4,100m over 4 outside rides (after he got his PB up the steep Alfred’s Tower segment on Sunday, I passed him (going in the easy direction, clearly)). Rich White and Vince Hounsome both recorded mid-2000m to make up the other podium slots.
The big loser in the Open category was the guy who spent too much time on a beach dropping 2 places whilst Michael is now within touching distance of the top 3. The women’s category still has Clare leading.
3 challenges left and a lot of points so a lot still to play for. Another rest week now (although many will be off to the Geraint Thomas Velodrome on Sunday) before the week commencing 19 February sees the fastest 10k run or walk as the next challenge.
More detail can be found in GDW Winter Series. If you didn’t get the chance to enter a performance this week, it is not too late for the season.
