The Gillingham Wheelers annual Open Time Trial at Bruton was held in dry overcast conditions. The event went really well. Thanks to John Phillips for organising and all the efforts from the Community Hall HQ crew, all the marshals and those out on the course.
Congratulations to Robert Francis of Team Bottrill, who was the overall winner. His time of 40.29, averaging 27.27mph is a new course record. He beat his team mate, Jake Sargent (Team Bottrill, 41.00) into second with Team Tor 2000 | KALAS Oscar Hutchings narrowly behind in third on 41:03.
Fastest of the women riders was Corrine Clark (360VRT) with 54:16,
We had a good field of 9 GDW riders, led off as rider No. 1 by the club chairman Mark Harvey who did the club proud finishing in 53:35 (23rd). First GDW rider was Shawn Gray 10th in place overall (47:14) and second was Ed Hunt in 13th place overall (48:58). Oliver Hugh-Jones rode a strong first TT on this tough course finishing in 1:03:06. For the first time in a long time GDW riders were also able to claim the team prize with the fastest three rider from a club and Yeovil CC were a close second.
