A large contingent of 8 Wheelers were among 44 riders who braved
attrocious conditions on Saturday afternoon in the second of this years
Frome Open 10 mile time trial events. A strong south westerley wind
made the return half of the course a real grind, and then with many
Wheelers out on the course the heavens opened making for very wet roads,
loads of spray and soggy feet. Fastest Wheeler and a great 11th
overall was Simon Rouse (24:21) making good use of his new Aero helmet.
James Chant recorded a good 24:42 (15th) followed by Grahame Reed in
25:35 (20th), Don Tanner in 26:09 (22nd), Alan Smith in 26:33 (26th and a
whopping 5:27 below his Standard time), John Phillips in 28:38 (36th),
Carole Millar making a great return to Open events in 29:17 (39th) and
Maria Phillips with her second new 10 mile ‘PB’ in a week of 31:58
(42nd), just under 4 minutes quicker than the last outing on this course
and earning a mention on the timetrialling forum no less – thanks are
due to Charles Rees for his recent coaching !
