Frome Wheelers held their Open 10 mile time trial on Sunday, kicking off the West district time trial season. The riders were treated to pretty good weather conditions for the time of year, not too cold with just a light headwind on the outward leg. There were some good rides from the eleven GDW entrants, with most people pleased with their times at this early stage of the season.
Jane Pritchard picked up the fastest lady prize with a time of 28.24, ahead of Jenny Lucas and Frome’s Fleur Rush. Simon Barfoot was 8th overall and 3rd fastest Vet rider with 23.46, Simon Rouse finished 17th while Stuart Kerton was 22nd on his return to competing as a Gillingham rider.
Competing in his first event as a Gillingham rider was Pete Humphreys, finishing with 28.28 in non-aero set up while Chris Mullett was really pleased with his first proper go on his new tt bike, 27.43 for 30th. Honorary Wheeler Charles Rees, riding for Raleigh RT, put in a typically fast ride for fourth overall, two places higher and some forty seconds faster than last year’s event.
