A field of 55 riders took on the challenge of the hardest WTTA Hardrider tt of them all today, thankfully in excellent weather conditions. The course is run over 28 miles of Cotswold countryside and starts off with a steep and long climb. And then soon gets worse. The fast and technical descents followed by long and difficult uphill roads left all the finishers with a feeling of accomplishment, although most were saying ‘Never again!’ afterwards! James Chant was the fastest Wheeler on the day, getting home in 1 hour 34 minutes and 14 seconds in 32nd place. Steve Way (Ratae RC) gained the respect and admiration of everyone by competing on his fixed-wheel machine and finished in 1.41.35 (41st). Will Edwards was in at the deep end by having his first go at a Hardrider tt. He finished well in a time 1.53.57 (49th), whilst Sarah Roberts gained more points towards retaining her championship title of last season by finishing 51st (Have been asked not to put her time into the public domain!).
Meanwhile, Vince Hounsome continued tackling the EDCA time trial championship in the Bournemouth Arrow event on Sunday, held on a 27 kilometre course near Bere Regis. Vince finished well in 14th position with a time of 40.02.
Finally, the club Saturday riders were witnessed being overtaken in Bruton by an elderly postwoman riding a bike laden down with mail. Apparently, they only got back past her when she stopped to deliver a letter!
