Barney Cox took his first road race win at Moreton on Thursday night, sprinting clear from a group of around 20 riders at the finish. The early starting groups in the handicapped race benefited from the organisers holding the scratch group back for a lap until releasing them. Once the remains of groups one and two had merged, they never looked like being caught. Barney was well positioned throughout the closing stages and burst clear in the final metres. James Chant was just behind in eighth, frustrated by being boxed in and unable to join in the sprint while Liam Teesdale was a few places further back from that. Rowan Birch lost contact with the leading bunch over the last lap or so and came home in between them and the scratch group. Josh Day headed them to the line while Matt Thorpe finished his first ever race a lap down.

Paul Hopkins was the winner at the latest GDW time trial, held on the Bruton course, which was slightly shortened again due to the roadworks on the first hill. Vince Hounsome set a quick time for second and Kim Little was third. There were several riders who improved their times from the previous outing at Bruton, the biggest improvers were Mike Donovan, Sarah Roberts, James Howell and Liam Teesdale, who was fastest junior. Results here.
Vince Hounsome couldn’t have got closer to breaking the hour on Sunday, recording exactly 60 minutes for the 25 mile Bournemouth and District Women’s CA event at Poole. Chris Mullett finished on 65.53, a good time on what was a tough morning and far from good conditions. James Foster was taking part in his first 25 miler and set a time of 69.45.
