So who’s been making a splash this week?
9 Wheelers found a pool and one found the sea (maintaining our run of at least one entry each week from beyond these shores). Others decided that swimming wasn’t for them and so the leader board has been obliterated (or had a little bit of rejig).
In the women’s section a fabulous sub-8 minute swim from Melanie Birch keeps her in contention for the female crown. There were only 5 in the Open category to beat this time and all of them were triathletes. Right at the front with sub-6 minute times were Vince Hounsome and Chris Giles, Chris nudging 4 seconds quicker than Vince. Mark Jacobs made into on the weekly podium for the first time this week whilst Rich White showed us that his swim training is making a big difference.
That has all led to a change in the lead with Michael Sleeman’s 6th place in the week helping him to first place overall overtaking a dry Shawn Gray. Chris, Vince and Rich are now within touching distance of the top 2, but don’t discount last year’s champion James Little as we come onto the climbing week.
For the week commencing 3 February the challenge is to climb as many metres as you can. Swim as much as you like but you’ll get no credit. Remember anything outdoors gets a 20% uplift, whether its a bike, run, walk, etc. but sitting on a ski lift/flying fails on the self-powered climbing criteria. (When sending your result can you state how many metres your are claiming – it is much quicker to check than calculate from scratch).

Its not too late to give it a go. Good luck
