Thruxton Circuit Road Race – 8 March 2009

On a windy and cold Sunday morning, Charles Rees, Simon Barfoot and Vince
Hounsome represented the Gillingham Wheelers in the Omega road race series on
the closed circuit at Thruxton.  The 25
mile 4^th Cat race saw a field of 60 riders hemmed in by the strong
winds on the exposed circuit preventing the development of any successful
breakaways and leading to an exciting bunch finish dominated by the sprinters
in which Charles Rees gained a very respectable and personal best 12^th
place with Simon Barfoot coming in 26^th  and Vince Hounsome in 39^th.  Plans are being made (mainly by Charles) for
the Wheelers to put together a Mark Cavendish style lead-out train to get
Charles in to the top 10 and points next Sunday
