Chris Mullett has been taking part in a couple of recent Open time trials, continuing with the good form he has had this season. The competitors at the Yeovil CC 10 mile event on September 20th were treated to some great conditions for tt-ing, and there were a lot of fast times. Chris got round in 24.08, not far off of his outright 10 mile pb, to finish in 51st place. Robin Coomber was the overall winner in 19.47.
The following day Chris was taking part in the Bath CC 25 mile tt on the Frome bypass. It’s always a tough slog on that course but Chris again did well, finishing in 1.07.02 for 19th. Rob Pears, who was second at the Yeovil 10, went one better and took the win in 53.15.
James Hywel-Davies and George Smith were both flying the GDW flag at the Minehead CC hillclimb last weekend, held on closed roads up the picturesque 4 mile Porlock toll road. They both rode well, setting very quick times. James was 15th overall from 92 finishers, and was second juvenile rider, setting a time of 16.51.5. George raced up in 17.55.2, third junior and 31st overall. Tejvan Pettinger, the 2013 National hillclimb champion, was first overall in 14.11.6.
Offcamber held the first of their off-road winter series last week, the recent dry weather making the course at Inside Park near Blandford very fast. A couple of new sections along the route helped improve what was already a really good venue. Paul Hopkins and Kim Little positioned themselves at the head of the 97 starters from the start, with Paul putting in a very quick second lap to pull away from Kim and then hold on to win. Andy Parsons rode well to get in to the top 10 and take ninth, while Liam Teesdale put his new BMC bike to good use and finish in 18th. Scawen Roberts and Dan Brockway had a race long scrap just behind Liam, with Scawen taking 19th in the end, just three seconds ahead of Dan. Further back, Jerry Cooper and James Chant were closely matched until the last lap when Jerry pulled clear. Jim Broom had his first ride at Inside Park and was pleased to beat quite a few riders, while Lynn Broom didn’t finish after a crash into a tree. Round two takes place on October 19th.
