There were some very quick times at the latest GDW time trial, held on the new version of the Gillingham-Mere-Bourton-Gill course. A strong wind from the East pushed the riders along through the hilly middle section, the finishing times were good and the local Strava leagues had a bit of a shake up as well.
Kim Little was quickest again, from Charles Rees in second. A good ride from Paul Cooke took him to third place.
James Hywel-Davies led the juniors with sixth overall, with Connor Geddes ahead of his brother James this week for second.
The women riders were headed by Jane Pritchard from Jenny Lucas, First timer Emily Dewey was third with Lynn Broom making a big improvement for fourth.
SOMER VALLEY CC OPEN
Round 10 of the Hardriders TT championship was held last week, the Somer Valley CC using ‘our’ course at Bruton for their event. There was a non-aero category again this year, with James Chant getting third place of the road bike users with a time of 53.48 for 15th overall. Steve Way (riding for Westbury) was using gears for a change (albeit just the six to choose from) and finished 23rd in 56.06. Sarah Roberts was the final finisher in 30th in 73.21.
Of the riders using their proper tt machines, Chris Mullett was a little disappointed with his ride to 22nd in 55.16. Sarah Wheeler picked up another good points score in 28th (59.35) and is just about hanging on to the lead in the women’s series, although Bristol South CC rider Hannah Ricketts is catching up fast with two rounds to go.
MORETON LADIES RACE
The League International have added a women’s series of four races to their traditional summer evening men’s races at Moreton. Three GDW riders have taken part at the first two races, with Stef Greenaway doing really well at the first event to finish in seventh place while Lynn Broom came home in 12th.
At round two, Leah Newing grabbed a podium spot by taking third place in the bunch sprint to the line, in spite of getting boxed in when she wanted to really go for it. Leah had managed to tag on to the group of riders which had pulled clear on lap two and stayed with them until the end. Lynn was racing as well and came in behind the leaders and just missed out on a points finish in 11th.
