Charles Rees put in another fast ride at the British Time Trial Championships last weekend. A strong entry in all of the categories brought out large crowds to watch the riders, especially on the steep climb on the streets of Llandeilo. Charles somehow managed to forget his lovely new Zipp wheels (his Facebook page said it all, ‘Zipps in Cardiff. I’m at the HQ. Cock’!) but begged and borrowed some spare wheels and got round the challenging course in 46 minutes 27 seconds for 13th place.
Other local riders also performed well. Jeff Jones (Chippenham Wheelers) stepped up into the Elite category after winning the Masters A title last year and finished 18th. Stu Dodd (Drag2Zero) won the Masters A with Ben Anstie (Chippenham) in fifth while David Driver (Yeovil CC, more usually setting tandem records with Shaun Walsh) was third in the Masters I section.

At the Poole Wheelers 25 mile tt, Alan Smith finished in 1.03.38 (41st) to take second place in the Vets on Standard competition, knocking more than 18 minutes off of his target time. Vince Hounsome got under the hour for the first time this season with a 59.31 (15th) while James Chant missed out (yet) again with 1.00.36 for 24th place.
This weekend sees Simon Rouse, James Chant and Chris Mullett in action at the next round of the WTTA Hardrider series on the roads around Wootten Bassett and Lyneham. Regular guest junior riders Erin, Adele and Ashley Martin will all be competing in the GHS TT Finals at Falfield near Bristol – good luck!
