Andover Wheelers’ hilly 10 mile time trial saw three Gillingham riders in action on Saturday. The gruelling course started and finished in the village of Vernham Dean and took in some long hillclimbs and some steep technical descents, one of which caught out Simon Rouse who found himself in the verge on the outside of a corner after too-high an entry speed. His final time of 30.31 (18th) also included 23 seconds of late start penalty as well as his off-road excursion. Nigel Brown and James Chant got round the course without any of Simon’s dramas with times of 29.17 for Nigel and 31.32 for James.
The event also had a prime prize for the fastest ascent of Conholt Hill and the three Wheelers were closely matched there with James on 4 minutes 8, Nigel with 4.12 and Simon (actual time) 4.13. Tejvan Pettinger was fastest up the hill (3.14) and fastest overall, knocking over a minute of the course record finishing with a time of 24.05.
